Using a text animation preset
Now you’re ready to animate the title. The easiest way to do that is to use one of the many animation presets that come with After Effects. After applying an animation preset, you can customize it and save it to use again in other projects.
It is divided into 5 sections, each section - it's a few lessons doing that you learn to use animation tools in practice. In this course, we're going through one specific case from importing files to rendering. The videos are made as clear as possible, so that even a person who has never worked in After Effects could make a project. What you learned: Apply text presets. Find and search for text presets in the Effects & Presets panel. Browse animation presets using Adobe Bridge CC. Drag and drop a preset from the Effects and Presets panel directly on a text layer to apply. The first keyframe of the preset will be placed at the location of the Current Time Indicator (CTI). To help you choose the right animation preset for your projects, you can preview them in Adobe Bridge. Choose Animation Browse Presets. Adobe Bridge opens, displaying the contents of the After Effects Presets folder. In the Content panel, double-click the Text folder, and then the Blurs folder. Click to select the first preset, Blur By Word.
Press the Home key or go to 0:00 to make sure the current-time indicator is at the beginning of the time ruler.

Browsing animation presets
You already applied an animation preset using the Effects & Presets panel in Lesson 2, “Creating a Basic Animation Using Effects and Presets.” But what if you’re not sure which animation preset you want to use? To help you choose the right animation preset for your projects, you can preview them in Adobe Bridge.
- Choose Animation > Browse Presets. Adobe Bridge opens, displaying the contents of the After Effects Presets folder.
- In the Content panel, double-click the Text folder, and then the Blurs folder.
- Click to select the first preset, Blur By Word. Adobe Bridge plays a sample of the animation in the Preview panel.
- Select a few other presets, and watch them in the Preview panel.
Preview the Evaporate preset, and then double-click its thumbnail preview. Alternatively, you can right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Mac OS) the thumbnail and choose Place > In After Effects.
After Effects applies the preset to the selected layer, which is the Road Trip layer, but nothing appears to change in the composition. This is because at 0:00, the first frame of the animation, the letters haven’t yet evaporated.

Now, preview the animation. Although the composition is 10 seconds long, you need to preview only the first few seconds, since that is where the text animation occurs.
In the Timeline panel, move the current-time indicator to 3:00, and press N to set the end bracket of the work area.
Press 0 on the numeric keypad, or click the RAM Preview button () in the Preview panel, to watch a RAM preview of the animation.
The letters appear to evaporate into the background. It looks great—but you want the letters to fade in and remain onscreen, not disappear. So you will customize the preset to suit your needs.
- Press the spacebar to stop the preview, and then press the Home key to move the current-time indicator back to 0:00.
Customizing an animation preset
After you apply an animation preset to a layer, all of its properties and keyframes are listed in the Timeline panel. You’ll use those properties to customize the preset.
Select the Road Trip text layer in the Timeline panel, and press U.
The U key, sometimes referred to as the Überkey, is a valuable keyboard shortcut that reveals all the animated properties of a layer.
Click the Offset property name to select both of its keyframes.
The Offset property specifies how much to offset the start and end of the selection.
Choose Animation > Keyframe Assistant > Time-Reverse Keyframes.
The Time-Reverse Keyframes command switches the order of the two Offset keyframes so that the letters are invisible at the beginning of the composition, and then emerge into view.
Drag the current-time indicator from 0:00 to 3:00 to manually preview the animation you edited.
The letters now fade into, rather than disappear from, the composition.
- Press U to hide the layer’s properties.
- Press the End key to move the current-time indicator to the end of the time ruler, and then press N to set the end bracket of the work area.
- Choose File > Save to save your project.

One of the advantages of using Adobe After Effects CC in your editing workflow is the availability of a large number of effects and animation presets on the web, which you can instantly download and integrate into the Effects & Presets panel in After Effects. If you happen to create and apply the same set of effects repeatedly for your projects, you must consider creating a preset to save time and effort. Presets in After Effects CC
Effect presets in After Effects CC make it easy to share a set of parameter adjustments that you have made in an effect across projects and compositions. After Effects provides you a number of presets out of the box in the Effects & Presets panel, and there are numerous presets that After Effects users sell or share for free on the web.
Animation presets help you save and reuse specific configurations of layer properties and animations, including keyframes, effects, and expressions. Clean my computer virus. Download and install presets
A wide variety of After Effects presets are available for download. You can download these presets from websites such as AE Enhancers, Video Copilot, and Share AE (and of course a number of other providers who provide cool presets, plugins, and templates for After Effects) and save them in a separate folder in the Presets directory at the After Effects install location on your computer. The folder that you create under Presets appears in the Effects & Presets panel after you refresh the panel (click Refresh List in the Effects panel menu) or restart After Effects. In the image, you can see a directory named My Custom Presets, which has a number of presets in it. It was a directory that I created for saving the free presets that I downloaded from the web.

Apply an effect or animation preset to your clip
To apply an effect or animation preset to a single layer, drag the effect or animation preset from the Effects & Presets panel to a layer in the Timeline, Composition, or Effect Controls panel.
When you drag an effect or animation preset onto a layer in the Composition panel, the name of the layer under the pointer is shown in the Info panel. If you have not selected a layer, double-clicking an animation preset will create a new layer and apply the preset to the layer.

- To copy effects from one layer to one or more layers, select the effects in the Timeline panel or the Effect Controls panel, choose Edit > Copy, select the target layers, and choose Edit > Paste.
Modify and save a preset
To create a new animation preset, double-click an animation preset that you want to base your preset on and modify its properties. After you make the changes, click the Create New Animation Preset button on the lower-right corner of the Effects & Presets panel and save it with a preset name. You can alternatively select the effects that you want to include in your preset and choose the Save Animation Preset option in the Animation menu. The new preset that you create is listed under User Presets directory under Animation Presets in the Effects & Presets panel.
